MEMENTO Chair of Dreams for Africa Alumni & Donor Event South African Consulate-General New York City – 23 November 2010

"Take a chair to New York... ARE YOU CRAZY?!" That was the response that we got when the UKZN Foundation announced its plans for an event at the SA Consulate-General in New York City. But this was no ordinary chair, this was the Chair of Dreams for Africa...

Crafted by 160 women from the Valley of 1000 Hills and in partnership with the Hillcrest Aids Centre, it has been sat in by the likes of… Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu Writer Gcina Mhlope Cartoonist Zapiro Singer Johnny Clegg Comedian Leon Schuster DJ Fresh and many others...

The invitation was for our alumni and donors in New York City to also have the chance to sit in the chair and dream a little... This presentation serves as a Memento of the chair travelling in New York itself and of those who had the opportunity to sit in the chair at the event. We hope you enjoy the show! * All photos of the chair out and about in New York thanks to Dominic Ronzo

“All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights...” excerpt from Article 1: Universal Declaration of Human Rights Headquarters of the United Nations

" Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free..." The Statue of Liberty

A truly magical evening which allowed each of us to dream a little about our hopes for South Africa while spending time in the company of friends and family

The UKZN Foundation is indebted to Her Excellency, Consul-General Fikile Magubane, Vice-Consul Leon Naidoo and other staffers at the SA Consulate in NYC, and the Hillcrest Aids Centre, for their support and assistance in making this event an outstanding success! With grateful thanks to...
