Smartpen in action…

How does it work? Camera: High-speed infrared camera with Dot Positioning System that keeps track of what you write, tap or draw Computer: It remembers everything that write, tap and hear.

How does it work? Audio: It can instantly play back, slow down and rewind what was recorded using the toolbar on the paper. It plays through the speaker or headphones. Works only on special paper! Writes with ink and comes with refills (5 for 6$)

How does it work? It requires special DOT paper. It comes with it, but you can buy another notebook from 7-25$ depending on size. Also you can now print off sheets of paper from your computer.

Share your notes! Notes and drawings can be shared as interactive flash movies (or pencasts) online. USB: USB Connector recharges Pulse and transfers notes and audio to your PC. Pulse magnetically docks into the USB Mobile Charging Cradle (included). This also allows smartpen users to install new applications from Livescribe.com.

Applications You can download a bunch of different applications. You can get applications for education, games, sports, reference, music (even play the piano).

Who is using it? Anyone who is regularly using pen and paper to take notes. Teachers can use it for assessments and for download instruction from class and give it to students who weren’t there or want to review it. It is ideal for English Language learners, home-bound students and students with special needs.

Why is it significant? Students can easily review instruction unlimited amount of times. It can be used as assistive technology for students with disabilities. Settles anxiety by allowing the students to never miss a word the teacher says because it is recorded. Universal Assistive Technology- Improves the ability to receive, retain, and review information for all the students, subject areas and grade levels.

Application in the classroom Running Record use

Downside Expensive for a school to use for a whole class You have to buy special paper and ink If volume is really high and there is a lot of background noise it will not pick up well. Up to 3 hours to charge
