Reflecting on Knowledge Transfer Informing various sectors about the Caregiver Toolkit

Politically neutral space for collaboration Holistic, multi-disciplinary and integrative approach to research and policy 5 areas of aging: Wellbeing Education Financial Recognition Employer Support Long Term Care A new philosophy of aging: Aging as sharing wisdom…

Caregiver Toolkit Sessions: Informing various sectors February th 2012 Series of information sessions for: Government/Civil servants Stakeholders Academics/Researchers/Students Interested Citizens Nursing Home Reps. and Decision Makers Total participants: 150 +

Caregiver Toolkit Sessions: Process The AIA’s interest in the Caregiver Toolkit Toolkit enables holistic policy development Info sessions enabled knowledge transfer across sectors Recruiting participants By invitation; sent by to existing AIA contacts Encouraged contacts to invite others Attendance Well attended, would have liked more students /academics/researchers

Evaluation of Toolkit Sessions Was this an effective knowledge transfer exercise? Session discussions Evaluation forms: 68 completed

Evaluation Form Evaluation points were: 1. Ideas were clearly presented 2. Overall presentation of toolkit 3. Content of Caregiver Lens 4. Content of Service Provider Resource Guide 5. Level of interest in using the Caregiver Policy Lens 6. Level of interest in using the Service Provider Resource Guide Scale of 1-10 (highest score: 10) Space for additional comments was provided

Our Results: A Snapshot Ideas were clearly presented………. 9/10 Overall presentation of Toolkit……… 9/10 Service Provider Resource Guide: Marginally greater interest in content and usage than Caregiver Policy Lens

Our Results.. Continued Most felt the content of the Caregiver Lens and the Service Provider Resource Guide were very useful Service Provider Resource Guide: higher scores for both usefulness of content and level of interest for practical utilization A number of participants working in long term care (nursing homes) were unsure about how to apply the Caregiver Lens in their organization

Our Results…Continued Questions around where to begin: “So much information- I will need to take a good look at it and see how this can be used in my daily practice” Opportunites: “Excellent resources for future consideration. It would be great to have all collaboration of departments.”

Knowledge Transfer: Benefits AIA built capacity by… …gaining a better understanding of how different sectors receive and interpret information …becoming more aware of which sectors/organizations/people desire policy and program development resources …becoming better able to gauge what knowledge/info various sectors want

Knowledge Transfer in the future… Improve clarity about practical application. Tailor info sessions for specific audiences. Provide examples of past applications. Facilitate application of transferred knowledge Provide guidance about how to implement/use Toolkit. Connect current uses with prospective users.

Possible Future Collaborations Opportunities: Nursing Homes identifying projects/UNB/AIA NB Premiers Panel on Seniors/AIA Evaluation of completed pilot – Care Link Advantage –Department of Social Development/AIA Sharing of Symposium presentations
