 Counting something one by one. Example: I went to the candy store and counted all the gumballs in the machine.

 To determine a number of something by counting the evidence it left behind. Example: I found 5 shedding of a snake, so I can imply that there were 5 snakes there.

 When you count how many organisms there are in an area then times it by how many areas there is Example: I counted how many ground hogs there is in an acre and there is 1000 acres then I times the number of ground hogs in that one acre by the number of total acres.

 By marking the thing and let it go then come back and see how many are marked Example: I marked fish then came back a week later and see how many were marked.
