LITERARY ANALYSIS Point of View

The Point of View in a work of literature refers to the path the reader follows in learning about the characters, action, setting, and plot. In other words, through whose “eyes” does the reader view the story that is unfolding?

This large circle symbolizes the world of the work…the reader (R), is outside of this circle MC N CC This symbolizes a Minor Character within the story This symbolizes the Central Character(s) in the story This symbolizes the Narrator of the story…the Narrator can be inside or outside of the world of the work

First Person Minor Narration MC CC Reader N The reader views the story through a Minor Character who is the Narrator. The reader can go inside the thoughts of the Narrator. The reader views the external actions of the Central Character and other Minor Characters through the Minor Character.

First Person Central Narration MC CC Reader N The reader views the story through the Central Character who is the Narrator. The reader can go inside the thoughts of the Narrator. The reader views the external actions of the Minor Characters through the Central Character. MC
