CONTROL n Completely halter broken n Animal must respond quickly to the halter and the show stick n Be quick but calm in setting the end closest to judge first n Be smooth in transition from show stick to halter n Maintain a cool temperament regardless of the problem NEXT
SPACING n Allow adequate space from outside walls and other cattle. n Judge should have room to circle your calf. n Anticipate on the move to allow for enough space NEXT
SETTING n Steers should be set squarely on all 4 corners of the calf. n Heifers will be allowed to set the rear leg next to Judge slightly back n Allow the stop to set the front feet. n Use show stick around heel to move rear foot forward and between toes to move backward. n Resetting may spell trouble in the Judge’s eyes. Set them and leave them! NEXT
PULLING TO RESET n From a side by side setup n Lead the calf forward, clearing other cattle, turn to the right or away from yourself. n Go back through the hole you established and again turn away from yourself n Pull back in same hole, stay in line n Allow front to set itself using show stick to set rear feet NEXT
