Online Social Networking By: Sylvia Engdahl ©2007

Overview Online Social Networking is a group of articles that were published together as an anthology.  Anthology- a collection of short articles that are collected and published as a single volume.  Generally discusses current issues, ideas, and controversies.

Content/Subject  Social aspects of online networking  Privacy, security, and personal information.  Facebook, MySpace, and Twitter  Affects online social networking has on youth  Exposure to explicit material  Procrastination  Pros and Cons of social interaction on the web

Online Social Networking vs. CS408 The articles presented in this work had many parallels with class discussion. – Privacy and security (custom) – Personal information relevance – Affects on young children internet vs. face-to-face – Cyber-bullying

Recommendation Personally I would not recommend this book as a good read. – Not entertaining – Articles are informative – Reliable resource for information and discussion relating to these subjects – Periodically presents interesting topics (current) – May not agree with all opinions and ideas put forth by the authors
