Why Engineering at the High Schools? The National Standards are supported by the engineering community: –National Academy of Engineering (NAE)National Academy of Engineering (NAE) –Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME)Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) –American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) –Institute for Electrical & Electronics Engineers (IEEE)Institute for Electrical & Electronics Engineers (IEEE)

Two High School Options 1)Engineering Focus (The Utah Plan) 2)Engineering Focus (Project Lead The Way)

or High Schools can choose between two engineering options, PLTW or the Utah Plan. and/or High Schools can choose between two engineering options, PLTW or the Utah Plan. They can also choose to provide feeder courses for other ATE programs. or

Option 1 – High School The Utah Plan  9 th grade – Foundations of Technology  Intro to Design and Basic Systems: Electrical, Fluid, Mechanical, Structural  10 th grades – Design Course  CAD, or Into. to Communications  11 th grades – Application Course  Electronics, Cabinetry and Millwork, Machine Tool, or Introduction to Manufacturing  12 th Grade PreEngineering  Senior Project, R & D, Patents & Copyrights, and Systems Integration  Math and Science courses should be encouraged as an important part of this program. Flexible

Option 2 – High School “Project Lead the Way” Curriculum developed – 5 courses –Principles of Engineering –Introduction to Engineering Design –Digital Electronics –Computer Integrated Manufacturing (Optional courses underdevelopment) –Engineering Design and Development Required math and science component (These are your existing school courses) Academic Rigor

Option 2 – High School “Project Lead the Way” Standards Driven –The National Academy of Sciences –The National Council of Teachers of Mathematics –Standards for Technological Literacy (International Technology Education Association) End of course test in place University/College Credit Teacher training provided at Weber State University
