Use the energy from sunlight to transform carbon dioxide and water into food energy like...

You cannot win! (that is, you cannot get something for nothing, because matter and energy are conserved). Conservation of Energy In any process, the quantity of energy in the universe remains constant. You cannot break even! (you cannot return to the same energy state, because there is always an increase in disorder; ENTROPY always increases). The quality of this energy is degraded irreversibly. You cannot get out of the game! Transport of Heat and Work

Plant POWER Comes from the sun

C 6 H 12 O 6 Photons

The more complex plants have leaves. Leaves are the energy factories of the plant, using sunlight, carbon dioxide from air, and water to transform light energy into food energy.

SUNLIGHT ENERGY Energy from the sun transforms carbon dioxide and water to form food energy. Living things need food energy to grow and reproduce. Plants make their own food. The cow and the person need to get their food from ready-made sources. Herbivore Omnivore

SUNLIGHT ENERGY The plant’s food energy is transferred to the cow when the cow eats the grass. The cow uses this plant food energy to grow and reproduce.

SUNLIGHT ENERGY The cow’s food energy is transferred to the person when the man eats a hamburger or a steak. The person uses this cow food energy to grow and reproduce. Consumer Producer

SUNLIGHT ENERGY The energy flows in one direction through this FOOD CHAIN, beginning with the sun, then the grass, the cow, and last the person. Autotroph Heterotroph

All living things depend on the sun for energy. Plants are able to... Carbon dioxide and water into food energy using the sun’s energy.

...Become thick, juicy, and fleshy!
