Cartoons and Stereotypes Stereotypes exist everywhere in the media, even in children’s programs, and that has a really bad effect on the kids. If they start from a young age stereotyping people, it would just get worse as they grow older. There are cartoons that are full of stereotypes, and not quite visible sometimes, and there are others with less. Barbie dolls and movies for example. Every little girl has played with a Barbie doll, they are pretty and everything is perfect about them. So the message that passes to the little girls is that, in order to look beautiful they have to look like a Barbie doll (tall, skinny, tanned, blonde, with blue eyes and wearing make up). However, not all girls look or are similar to that. As a result, if a girl for example is not skinny or if she is short she gets teased about it and even if she doesn’t, by seeing how they media portrays what “beautiful” looks like, they feel that they have to be like that.
