How Walt Disney Impacted the Animation Industry
Presentation transcript:

Children’s Television The begging- First Cartoon The very first cartoon ever presented on black and white TV, was Mickey Mouse as Steamboat Willie, created by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks back in 1928, at the Walt Disney Studios. It was a black and white short film with an anthropomorphic cute mouse called Mickey and his girlfriend Minnie.

Colour Television The first cartoons in colour TV A few years after the colour television was introduced at the US; Hanna-Barbera released The Huckleberry Hound Show, the first half-hour television program to feature only animation and then Terrytoons released Tom Terrific the same year. In 1960 Hanna-Barbera released another monumental animated television show, The Flintstones, which was the first animated series on prime time television.

First Animated Film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was an American animated film produced by Walt Disney Productions and released by RKO Radio Pictures in Based on the German fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm, it is the first full-length cel animated feature film and the earliest in the Walt Disney Animated Classics series.

Bugs Bunny TV Debut Bugs Bunny- First Appearance His first official appearance was on A Wild Hare, which was released on July 27, It is the first film where both Elmer Fudd and Bugs are shown in their fully developed forms as hunter and tormentor and it the first time Bugs Bunny uses his catchphrase, “What's up, Doc?“. His popularity during the Golden age of American animation, led to his becoming a cultural icon, as well as a corporate mascot of Warner Bros. Entertainment. The man behind Bugs Bunny’s voice is Mel Blanc (May 30, 1908 – July 10, 1989), who besides Bugs he has done the voices of more than 1000 cartoon characters.

Children’s Television Today

Girls Cartoons The first “girly” animation was the Barbie movie Barbie and the Rockers: Out of this World, which was released in In the following years, until this day, Barbie has released a lot of movies and has become very popular. However as the years gone by she got competition. For example, in 2010, a new TV show was released called Monster High. The characters are inspired by monster movies, sci-fi horror, thriller fiction, and various creatures therefore distinguishing them from most fashion dolls and usual girls cartoons

Boys Cartoons Boys mostly watch cartoons that have superheroes or cars or action in general. In late 1941, Superman became the first superhero to be depicted in animation with others to follow. Another very popular cartoon that usually boys watch is Pokémon, created in A most recent one, is Cars and Cars 2 (2006/2011) is also a well-known cartoons and my little brother’s favorite. Now we have some new animated cartoons, that are slightly similar to Pokémon, like Beyblade, Bakugan etc

Cartoons and Stereotypes Stereotypes exist everywhere in the media, even in children’s programs, and that has a really bad effect on the kids. If they start from a young age stereotyping people, it would just get worse as they grow older. There are cartoons that are full of stereotypes, and not quite visible sometimes, and there are others with less. Barbie dolls and movies for example. Every little girl has played with a Barbie doll, they are pretty and everything is perfect about them. So the message that passes to the little girls is that, in order to look beautiful they have to look like a Barbie doll (tall, skinny, tanned, blonde, with blue eyes and wearing make up). However, not all girls look or are similar to that. As a result, if a girl for example is not skinny or if she is short she gets teased about it and even if she doesn’t, by seeing how they media portrays what “beautiful” looks like, they feel that they have to be like that. A while ago, another version of Barbie was released in the media. How a normal girl would like if she was a Barbie doll. Also, there was released an overweight version, with the question if these dolls should get on the market, so all the girls can feel good about themselves.

The Lion King The Lion King is a 1994 American animated epic musical adventure film produced by Walt Disney Feature Animation and released by Walt Disney Pictures. There was also a second part The Lion King II: Simba's Pride released in The story takes place in a kingdom of lions in Africa, and was influenced by the biblical tales of Joseph and Moses and the Shakespeare play Hamlet and has similarities with the Epic of Sundiata. It is considered as one of the best animated films ‘til this day. I believe it is a quite un- stereotyped movie, as it’s about animals and it’s basically a fairy-tale, but still the whole story is so beautifully done that is a great movie for kids and adults to watch. 1MT05lAA 6Zb6Tz8_s
