Percussion instruments Percussion instruments are designed to make unique noises when hit with a stick or hands. Membranophones and idiophones are the two different instrument groups. Membranophone instruments group includes instruments such as snare, bongo and etc. Membranophone instruments have a stretched membrane over the hollow shell. Idiophone instrument group includes instruments such as triangle, castanet, maracas and etc. Idiophone instruments have no membrane and the instrument itself is made to vibrate. Mallet is a stick that cause the instrument to vibrate. Drum machine creates a vast number of percussion sounds and rhythm.

Brass instruments Brass instruments are normally played by blowing into but some of the instruments that are made of brass are not in the brass instrument family. Here are some brass instruments: Trumpet, tuba, French horn, trombone, bugle. Tuba hits the lowest notes and it sits on the musicians lap unlike sousaphone that wraps around the player body. Trombone is a slide instrument the players change pitches by sliding the long tube up and down allowing smooth changes to notes. Bugle is a natural brass instrument it has neither slide or value so has limited range of notes and not used often.

String instruments String instruments are normally plucked with a thumb, fingers or a small piece of plastic a guitar is a example of a stringed instrument. Bowed is a technique when the strings are rubbed over by a bow and played using a bow. A bow is a strong flexible stick with a ribbon of horse hair stretched onto it. The hair is rubbed with a resin for the friction. Orchestral instruments: violin, viola, cello and double bass have the highest and lowest pitch. Lyre the oldest kind of stringed instrument which was popular at the time of ancient Greek. A harp is also another stringed instrument that has been around for a long time

Woodwind instruments Woodwind instruments are not all made out of wood, but require wind to make a noise there are basically tubes and holes along flute, saxophone, oboes are example of woodwind instruments. The mouthpiece is to make the music, the air is blown into the instrument through this, also through a reed. These instruments are not to be played without the mouthpiece. A reed is often made out of bamboo a type of wood it vibrates when blown into through the reed within the mouthpiece which produces the sound. Clarinets and saxophone are single reed instruments these instruments have a single reed in the mouthpiece. oboes is a double reed instrument which produces even more Vibration. Flutes and recorders are edge blown instruments. For these instruments the air is blown over and edge in the mouthpiece.
