Diligently Building Your Faith 2 Peter 1:3-11 Diligently Building Your Faith

Life and Godliness (3,4) All Things Pertaining to Life and Godliness Given to us by his Divine Power Life- our spiritual life or union with God Godliness- Living our life through faith. 2 Tim 3:16,17. All Scripture given by God is profitable.

Life and Godliness (3,4) Through the knowledge of Him who called us A knowledge of God and Jesus. More than intellectual knowledge. Means full and thorough knowledge or recognition. We must become fully acquainted with God and Jesus.

Life and Godliness (3,4) Exceedingly Great and Precious Promises The gifts God has promised are very great and valuable. God is the giver of them. They also enable us to get out of this life alive. Forgiveness of sins, Holy Spirit, God’s Care and Strength, Eternal life.

Life and Godliness (3,4) Partakers of the Divine Nature. We share in things related to God’s divine nature. We do not partake in God’s deity. We can take part in his divinity. Holiness, Love, Righteousness, etc. We can take part in all of these.

Life and Godliness (3,4) Escaped the Corruption Through these precious promises and this divine nature, we can overcome the world. When we obey the Gospel, we become new. Rom 6:3,4; Eph. 4:22-24

Diligently Add To Your Faith (5-7) Giving All Diligence We must be diligent in our service to God. Half-hearted service is not pleasing to God Rev 3:15,16; Matt 6:24. We must have determination if we hope to build our faith!

Diligently Add To Your Faith (5-7) Add- From Greek epichoregeo meaning to bring alongside or to join together. We must add to our faith. Faith is our foundation. Heb. 11:6; John 6:29 Without faith anything else is meaningless.

Diligently Add To Your Faith (5-7) Virtue- Moral Excellence, integrity. The courage to stand up for your convictions. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego had this courage. We must have courage to stand for our convictions.

Diligently Add To Your Faith (5-7) Knowledge-understanding, insight. A knowledge of God and His Word. Our faith must be built on our knowledge of God’s Word. We must be firmly grounded in the truth. We must continue to add knowledge to virtue.

Diligently Add To Your Faith (5-7) Self Control- subduing our passions and desires. W/o self control, we find knowledge without practice. Every sin is a lack of self control Self control must be brought alongside our faith.

Diligently Add To Your Faith (5-7) Patience, we must have patience in our service to God and Jesus. We must endure whatever hardships come our way. Patience, while at times difficult, must be added to our faith.

Diligently Add To Your Faith (5-7) Godliness- Respect or reverence for God and his demands for our lives. We will strive to pattern our lives after Jesus’ life. We need to develop godly attributes. Godliness is needed to build our faith.

Diligently Add To Your Faith (5-7) Brotherly Kindness- desire to do good to all. We need to be like the Good Samaritan. We ought to try to help our others in any way we can. Gal 6:2,10. Let us diligently add brotherly kindness to our faith.

Diligently Add To Your Faith (5-7) Love- Caring enough to sacrifice for what is best. We must always seek the best for others. Love shows our devotion to God, Jesus, and our fellowman. 1st and 2nd Commands Matt 22:37-39 We must supply love to our faith.

“These Things” (8-11) Yours and Abound These things must be a part of out lives. They must be abundant. How much physical abundance do we have? Do we have such spiritual abundance? With abundance we will not be unfruitful.

“These Things” (8-11) He who lacks these things If we lack these qualities, we are shortsighted. Spiritually near-sighted. Forgotten that we have been cleansed of our sins. Let us never forget that Jesus cleansed us from our sins.

“These Things” (8-11) Make Your Call and Election Sure We must give diligence or be determined to make our call and election sure. Do we treat it with due urgency? 1 Pet 2:9 Are you sure you are of God’s elect? Are we diligent to make sure?

“These Things” (8-11) You will never stumble We will never stumble if we are diligently serving God as we ought to. We must not let the cares of the world in. James 2:10 If we keep our focus on God, we will not stumble.

“These Things” (8-11) Abundant Entrance Into the Kingdom We will gain entrance into the Kingdom of Heaven. We can look forward to our reward. We can victoriously claim our reward. 2 Tim 4:6-8

Is Your Call and Election Sure?
