INTERPRETING VELOCITY VS TIME GRAPHS HONORS PHYSICS

NOT POSITION VS TIME GRAPHS! Do not get them confused! They will both be on the EOC. It is up to you to read the question and the graph and make sure you are analyzing the correct type of graph!

VELOCITY VS TIME GRAPHS Tell you the velocity of an object at any point in time. Constant - 4 m/s Decreasing – 4 to 0 m/s Increasing – 0 to 4 m/s What is the velocity of the object at 1 a time of 1 second? What is the velocity of the object at 1 a time of 6 seconds?

INTERPRETING VELOCITY VS TIME GRAPHS

FINDING ACCELERATION Remember – acceleration is a change in velocity If the velocity of the object is changing on the graph, it is accelerating. The acceleration of the object is equal to the slope of the velocity vs time graph!!!

CALCULATING ACCELERATION

FIND THE ACCELERATION

FINDING DISPLACEMENT FROM A V-T GRAPH The displacement of an object is equal to the area under the velocity vs time graph. Area = Displacement

FINDING DISPLACEMENT FROM A V-T GRAPH How do we find the area under this graph? Base = 5 secondsHeight = 20 m/s Displacement = 50 m Area = ½bxh

FIND THE DISPLACEMENT
