Presentation transcript:

Eating Well for Optimum Health This book is basically a guide to healthy eating that incorporates different aspects of eating such as the fact that it is a major social, pleasurable, cultural, spiritual, and unifying point in everyone’s life. Also it is more alternative in the sense that it opposes most weight loss diets, and shows the manipulation of health by the media. It let’s us know that it’s not shameful, but natural to take pleasure in nourishing ourselves and eating. The book also provides important, complex biochemical facts and shows us how every single nutrient is important and none should be eradicated from a healthy diet. While it goes through these things it includes social, emotional, and anthropological facts to enrich the information.

Underlying Issues How the media depicts and presents a mutated version of healthy dieting for profit How the eradication or reduction of any micro or macronutrient can have a major negative affect on the body and health. How we can get more of a sense of wholeness and natural wellness from eating, not focusing on the superficial and destructive.

Weil’s School Lunch Plan Because the book goes by the philosophy of using, “food as medicine, and medicine as food” it is generally individualized, so it would probably provide plenty of options. There would probably be wide cultural variety that could be combined in a healthy way, with plenty of carbs, some fats, proteins, all other natural micro and macro nutrients, keeping in mind that our brains are working hard in school and we are in one of the highest growing points in our lives. Also there are many of us that are active with things like sports, which require many nutrients. He would also integrate advertisements and education on the true meaning of healthy eating, showing the very destructive effects of most modern diets.
