Digital Driver License
Digital Driver License DDL - Digital driver license came about in 2004 2004 6 point Identification process was adopted Motorist under 21 have a distinct vertical format DDL Most DDl are issued for 4 years
DDL Altering a DDL will result in loss of motorist’s driving privilege, a fine up to $1,000.00 and/or 6 months in jail! Getting a Driver license illegally may result in a fine of $200.00 and up to $500.00 and/or imprisonment of 30 to 90 days!
Restrictions 1 = corrective lenses 2= prosthetic device Artificial device that replaces a missing body part 3=mechanical device 4= hearing impaired 5= attached restrictions

6 Point ID Verification All NJ drivers must complete 6 Point ID Verification by presenting documents that prove age, identity, and legal presence in the US Must have at least one primary document At least one secondary document At least 6 points of ID Proof of address See chart on pg 12 in manual, information on CD ROM or njmvc.gov
GDL GDL = Graduated Driver License Implemented in 2001 System gradually introduced driving privileges to fist time driver Failure to adhere to restrictions result in a $100 fine or a possible suspension of motorist driving privileges
Early Bird ( Option A) Step 1: Special learners permit At least 16 years old, signed parent consent, enrolled in behind the wheel training, must pass MVC KV test, must pay fees Step 2: Practice with adult supervising driver Must observe learner permit restrictions, must practice at least 6 months
Early Bird ( Option A) Step 3 : Get Probationary License Have 6 months of supervised driving without suspensions, must pass MVC road test, must be at least 17 years old Step 4: With a Probationary Driver License Must practice unsupervised for at least 1 year, must obey restrictions Step 5: Get a Basic Driver License Must be at least 18, have completed 1 year unsupervised driving, pay required fees
Young Adult Road ( Option B) Step 1: Get an Examination Permit Must pass MVC KV test, must be at least 17, pay fee, obtain consent from parent/guardian Step 2: Practice Supervised Driving Must practice with adult driver,at least 6 months, observe examination-permit driving restrictions Step 3: Get Probationary License Must complete 6 months supervised driving,must pass MVC road test
Young Adult Road ( Option B) Step 4: Practice Unsupervised Driving Practice at least 1 year, must follow restrictions Step 5: Basic Driver License Must be at least 18,complete one year unsupervised driving, pay fee
The Adult Road ( option C) Step 1: Get an Examination Permit Must be at least 21, pass MVC kV test, pay fee Step 2: Practice Supervised Driving Must practice with a supervising adult, must practice 3 months, must observe examination permit driving restrictions Step 3: Get Probationary License Must have completed 3 months of supervised driving, must pass MVC road test
The Adult Road ( option C) Step 5: Get the Basic Driver License Must have completed one year of unsupervised driving, may pay fee
Special Learner Permit Restrictions No driving between 11:01 and 5:00 am No using hand held or hands free cell phones or any electronic devices Permit holder must be accompanied in the front seat by an adult supervising driver who is at least 21 or has 3 years of driving experience ( NJ driver) Passengers are limited to any parent, guardian or dependent and ONE additional passenger

GDL Decal All GDL drivers under age 21, who posses or permit or probationary license, are required to display two visible red, reflective on any vehicle they operate They are to be displayed on the top left corner on the front and rear license plates They are $4 a pair at MVC agency
GDL Driver If the student commits a traffic offense, responsibility will be with both the student and instructor of adult
Examination Permits for Out-Of-State Drivers All out of state drivers are required to purchase an examination permit within 60 days of becoming a permanent NJ resident or when his/her out-of-state license expires, whichever comes first Out-of-state drivers who are under 18 years of age and move to NJ are subject to the state’s GDL Program
Commercial Driver License No one can apply for these licenses until they possess a Class D basic license first Class A : GCWR ( gross combination weight rating)26,001 lbs or more. This is necessary for operation of tractor trailers or any truck or trailer over this GCWR * Class A also allows the motorist to operate all vehicles in the class B,C, and D categories
Commercial Driver License Class B: necessary to operate any vehicle with a GVWR ( Gross Vehicle Weight Rating) of 26,001 lbs. or more, a bus designated to transport passengers of 16 or more * Class B allows motorist to operate vehicles in the Class C and D categories
Commercial Driver License Class C: necessary for any vehicle with a GVWR less than 26,001 lbs, any bus including school bus, and school vehicles
