Definition – A group of people working together is not necessarily a team. – TEAM is a group of people who are committed to the achievement of a common objective, who work well together and enjoy doing so, producing high quality results. Together Each Achieve More!

TEAM structure is a clear form throughout the bible….. “ And He called the twelve to Himself, and began to send them out two by two, and gave them power over unclean spirits.” (Mark 6 : 7)

To have a well rounded team, various ROLES are needed. “from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love.” (Eph 4:16) Process ROLES Needed

Encourager Compromiser Consensus Taker Clarifier Interprets ideas - defines terms. In conflicts modifies & offers ideas Sees if team is nearing a decision Shows acceptance of others’ contributions

Process ROLES Needed Harmonizer Follower Gatekeeper Information Seeker Serves as an audience in discussion Helps to keep good communication Helps to reconcile disagreements Requests facts for clarification

Process ROLES Needed Opinion Seeker Informer Initiator Orienter Offers facts, gives opinions. Proposes tasks, suggestions. Asking for opinions. Focused on team performance in relation to goal.

Process ROLES Needed Reality Tester Standard Tester Summarizer Critically analyze and test ideas against data. Expresses the standards for the team to achieve. Accumulate ideas, suggestions and conclusions

STAGES of Team Development Forming Unclear about what we are supposed to do Team members don’t know each other Feelings are not dealt with Members are testing the situation and each other Storming Having trouble getting along Members competing for power Disagreeing about how to proceed Personal feelings raised Trying to spot problem, work out a solution that meets everyone’s goals. Norming Seeing work progress Team open in asking questions & giving feedback Know each other better = working more smoothly Clear Work process & method Ground rules established Differences resolved Harmony, respect, trust and support Performing Feel pride in accomplishments Max. use of energy and ability to get work done High flexibility Members’ needs are met Working both together & interdependently Members feel a close connection to the team.

Case of Nehemiah Team Development 1.Made sure he had Real Teams ….. (Neh 3) 2.Set a Noble Goal “……and I told them of the hand of my God which had been good upon me, and also of the king's words that he had spoken to me. So they said, "Let us rise up and build" (Neh 2: 17-18)

Case of Nehemiah 3. Kept Team Focused on performance challenge.  Posted guards so work would continue (4:16-18)  Corrective Measures to relational problems (5:6-8)  Enemies‘ fearing messages. (6:1-9)

To Measure to what extent are you a Dynamic Team Member. Answer the following questions; Put “S” to all behaviors you feel are strengths in you Put “D” to all behaviors you feel you need to develop Dynamic Team Member Strength

I understand and support the team’s mission and goals I put the team goals ahead of my personal goals I listen to everyone on the team I see conflict as useful and necessary I provide useful feedback to other team members I communicate openly and honestly I respect differences I am dependable Dynamic Team Member Strength

I maintain confidentiality I view feedback as an opportunity to learn I state problems along with alternative solutions I accept ownership for team decisions I understand personal and team roles I trust other team members I work for consensus in team decisions

Above all, theories alone will not produce the most effective service team, without the “LOVE” through which we are known as God’s disciples. “A new commandment I give to you, that you LOVE one another; as I have loved you, that you also LOVE one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have LOVE for one another“. (John 13: 34-35) Team Work with a Servant’s Heart

 This love is a fruit of the Holy Spirit  Holy Spirit – responsible for our unity – VISION “Now I plead with you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.” (1Cor 1:10) Team Work with a Servant’s Heart

“ Fulfill my joy by being like-minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.” (Phil 2: 2-4) Team Work with a Servant’s Heart

-Specialization (talent) “And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ,.” (EPH 4: 11-12) Team Work with a Servant’s Heart

“Now may the God of patience and comfort grant you to be like-minded toward one another, according to Christ Jesus, that you may with one mind and one mouth GLORIFY the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.” (Rom 15: 5-6) Team Work with a Servant’s Heart LAST ASPIRATION
