CHECKS AND BALANCES By : Kyla M.

The System  The system of checks and balances is important part in our Constitution. Each of the three branches has responsibilities to keep a fairness in the legal system so one branch does not hold an unfair balance in the law making process.

The Executive Branch  The power of the Executive Branch is coordinated under the President of the United States, also known as head of state and Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces. The President is responsible for putting laws into action and also enforcing laws written by Congress.

The Executive Branch The E xecutive Branch has some power over the Judicial Branch, the Executive branch can appoint the judges and can grant pardons to federal offenders. The Executive Branch has power over the Judicial Branch as well. The Executive Branch can propose, as well as veto laws. They can also veto legislation.

The Judicial Branch  The Judicial branch define what the laws mean. This branch is coordinated by people that are appointed (or nominated) by the President and confirmed (or approved) by the Senate.

The Judicial Branch  The Judicial branch oversees the Executive branch and has the power to declare acts of the President as unconstitutional.  The Judicial branch’s checks over the legislative Branch are also by declaring the laws as unconstitutional.

The Legislative Branch Created by Article I of the Constitution, the Legislative Branch is made up of the House of Representatives and the Senate, which together form the United States Congress.

The Legislative Branch  The authority of the Legislative Branch over the Executive Branch is the power to impeach the President and override a Presidents’ veto as well as ratify treaties.  The authority of the Legislative Branch over the Judicial is the ability to impeach judges and reject the appointment of the judges.

Brief summarization  As previously stated in the first slide of this power- point, the branches have a certain system of which they operate to keep the power amongst each other even, this system is known as “the System of Checks and Balances.”
