Light-Independent Reactions The Calvin Cycle

Calvin Cycle occurs in the stroma 3 phases –carbon fixation –reduction reactions –RuBP regeneration

Calvin Cycle for every 3 CO 2 molecules that enter the Calvin cycle, 1 G3P molecule is produced 5 G3P molecules are used to regenerate RuBP

Animations Animation of Calvin cycle: s/Biology/Bio231/calvin.html Narrated animation with quiz: hill.com/sites/ /student_view 0/chapter5/animation_quiz_1.html

Energy Requirements for every 1 G3P molecule that comes out of the Calvin cycle, 9 ATP and 6 NADPH are needed

Light Reactions Recap 2 H 2 O ---> 4e - ---> 12 H + ---> 3 ATP + 2 NADPH
