MDS University of Texas at San Antonio Vanessa Hunert April 2015 RACE AND ABORTION RATES

Background 1973 to 2013, over 56 million women in the United States have had an abortion for a number of reasons Why do most women have abortions? 74%-having a baby would interfere with work/school/other 73% -can’t afford a child 48%-do not want to be a single parent Less than 2%-became pregnant as a result of rape or incest Many people have different beliefs on whether women should be allowed to have an abortion for any reason Over past few decades-number of white, black, and other races of women who have obtained abortions seems to vary

Research Questions Who believes woman should be allowed to have abortions for any reasons? What are the numbers/rates of abortions among different races?

Methods/Results Research on the topic of abortion After researching/exploring many statistics on the topic of abortion, race, and the overall approval, I could come to a conclusion According to the GSS-60% of people interviewed believe a woman should not be allowed to have an abortion for any reason While only 39% of the people interviewed believe a woman should be allowed to have an abortion for any reason Since black woman have higher rates of abortion than any other race
