Natural Disasters There are many types of natural disasters which we are aware of. A few examples are: Hurricanes Wild Fires Tornados Earthquakes In 2010 a quarter million people died from natural disasters in the world.

Natural Disasters Texas battled the worst fire season in state history in A record 3.5 million acres- and area roughly the size of Connecticut have burned since thes tart of the season 476 homes were destroyed in Bastrop County About 5,000 residents evacuated

Natural Disasters In the event of a natural disaster we rely on the community and the government for help when we can not provide the proper needs ourselves. The Red cross is responsible for setting up shelters when we need them and handing out food and water, and if needed medical treatment.

Houston, Texas As of right now the Red Cross has pre- determined places that they have certified usable for shelters; the down fall is that those places are not publicized till after the disaster has already taken place. This is where I came up with my idea to turn schools such as Wunsche into shelters.

Houston, Texas There is a need for making schools shelters in certain areas. Some schools can not be made into shelters because it would be to dangerous. In Houston the communities that would be in more danger would be Galveston and communities close to the coast.

My Project What I am did is plan and organize all that would go on at a shelter. With Wunsche I also had some added endeavors I had to deal with. We have a Vet clinic and a small clinic. An added advantage is that we have medical and vet students that are trained.

My project The school may not be the best for some natural disasters such as: Strong hurricanes Floods But it would be good for fires and to house people that have been evacuated from other places

The Teams I have created teams that would be in charge of certain responsibilities. Medical- responsible for the medical treatment that should occur (Pre-Med students and Doctors) Veterinary-responsible for taking in and care of the animals that would be brought in (Vet-Med Students and Veterinarians) Clean up- clean up any glass that might have been broken and clean up after the people staying at the school (Volunteers)

The Teams Continued FEMA- set up the rooms that FEMA is going to use and help the FEMA associates in any way, also collect the names and take calls that are coming in about people in need of help and animals as well, contact FEMA to come out and to publicize that the school is a shelter (Business students)

The Teams Contd. Pick-up- go and pick up people and animals that would be called in, also going to get the supplies that are donated to the school (EMT students) Food and Water- responsible for cooking and handing out the food (Culinary students) Linens- responsible for setting up the designated areas with cots and cleaning the linens (Volunteers)

Day Care- watching the small children that would need supervision if their parents are not able to (Education students) Counsel- counsel the families that are struggling with the effects of * Volunteers: anyone from the school and the community such as from the Red Cross
