Vocabulary Annexation: when territory becomes part of a larger country. Resolution: a decision. Legislature: a group of elected people who make new laws. Governor: a person elected as the chief executive, the main person in charge, of a state.

Texas was an independent country for nine years before it became a state in the U.S. That is why it was called… The Lone Star State.
