AACR2 – MARC21 - RDA AACR2 and MARC 21 are two different “standards” designed for two different purposes. AACR2 is the world’s most used content standard for bibliographic description and access. MARC 21 is largely an encoding standard. MARC 21 is only one possible schema for encoding records created using RDA, but it will also be possible to encode records created using RDA in other schemas, such as Dublin Core. RDA is being developed only as a content standard rather than an encoding standard. RDA will contain guidelines for choosing and recording data to include in bibliographic and authority records.

300 - Collation Insert ISBN punctuation if lacking Do not use abbreviations – spell out the pages, volumes, illustrations, but “cm.” is considered a symbol therefore not an abbreviation; “hr” is also still used for duration. e.g. 3 volumes:|billustrated. ;|c28 cm. Summary Many changes were approved at MARBI in January 2009 and will be listed on the online version of MARC A few more will be discussed at MARBI in July 2009 More subfields for 033 and 518 Encoding Uniform Resource Identifiers (URI’s) to link to registries of controlled values MARC 21 update no. 10 will be officially published later this year

Conclusion Library of Congress: online MARC21 as official We can start creating RDA records after the official publication of MARC21 update 10. The data elements should be available on our systems.
