CREATING EDUCATIONAL PODCASTS By: Jan Abernethy

What is podagogy? Podagogy is a combination of the terms pedagogy and podcasting. As in any teaching method, there are do’s and don’ts for creating and using podcasting in your teaching.

Why should teachers podcast?  Most students have MP3 players or computers with access to the internet  Provides another form of teaching delivery  Allows students to access information anytime

Do’s in Podcasting  Use appropriate content for your audience  Provide information in small chunks  Choose content that is audio friendly  Keep it interesting

Don’ts in Podcasting?  Don’t record long involved lectures  Don’t provide too many facts and figures (they will not be remembered)  Don’t try to teach too much in one podcast  Don’t read from a script (use an informal tone)

Possible uses for podcasting in the classroom  News broadcasts  Interviews  Music shows  Storytelling  Anticipatory set for a lesson  Review of class material  Foreign language learning  Presentation by students

What do you need to podcast?  Computer  Microphone  Audio recording software  Website to submit podcasts  Podcast receiving software
