Visibility of Lamar Sports Network  The BIG RED SPORTS NETWORK has an unclear identity.  BIG RED SN has no location presence on the campus to help with identity.  Students and faculty and the general public are not aware that LU BIG RED SPORTS NETWORK EVEN IS RUNNING !

 Future students and parents will go to the main website first and right now the website does not show up in the search engine result and is very difficult to find and this creates a huge problem because if no one can find the webpage to begin with they are not going to use it.  Big Red SN needs to publicize that they are the only college in the Southland conference to offer free live streaming footage of every sports game.  A “Watch Sports” search from the main page gets these results. Even after several pages Big Red SN does not appear. Creative Brief: Big Red SN Present and Noted!  In order to capture more viewers BIG RED SN needs to emphasize that their footage is FREE to watch and that it is uploaded live streaming!  BIG RED SN should promote that communications students and film students can have jobs to help produce the footage of games. Giving students a film experience is a major selling point. BIG RED SN should list equipment they use for film majors, and where the production is done.  Flyers placed around campus along with PENNANTS on campus with “ FREE LIVE STREAMING ” on them would help get the word out to students, visitors and faculty that there is a way to watch all the games for free from the comfort of their own homes with free live streaming!  Big Red SN needs to reach the students, faculty and future students and parents so that the network can grow.

 BIG RED SN also needs to have a logo that tells what it is. When people talk about BIG RED SN there must be a logo that tells them what to do: Watch Free Live Streaming Lamar Sports!  BIG RED SN needs to reach the alumni, students, faculty, potential students, parents, and community to involve them in the sports at Lamar. Big Red SN! Logo that Says FREE LIVE STREAM  The program as a whole needs to promote the network and their production. Emphasize that EVERYTHING IS FREE! Also LU BIG RED Sports Network are the only ones in the Southland Conference offering free live streaming athletics games.

Situation Analysis Our Current users are mainly Beaumont residents ranging from students that don’t want to leave the comfort of their dorms or apartments, to alumni that still want to support their alma mater in all their sporting events. Outside of Beaumont, the other main demographics are cities and towns that Lamar student athletes reside from. Many athletes are from Houston which makes the fourth biggest city in America our second biggest demographic. Other viewers range from California, Georgia, all the way to Australia and are mainly family members of athletes out of the area. The Big Red Sports Network is just as seasonal as the collegiate sports covered by the network. The Network runs year-round with on-demand interviews and updates with coaches and players. The live events are streamed as they happen during the season. The season goes as follows: The fall season includes football, women’s soccer and volleyball. Winter sports streamed include men’s and women’s basketball. Currently the only spring sport covered by the BRSN is baseball.

Situation Analysis (continued): In the spring of 2015 however, a brand new softball stadium will be completed and for the first time, the Lamar Softball team will be added to the list of sports covered by the network. Our competitors which are other sport networks in the Southland Conference include SFA and SHSU and do not offer the on-demand video and free live-streaming like Lamar ’ s Big Red Sports Network.

Research: In doing research, we have found that most students at Lamar are unaware of the BRSN’s presence. We have found that only 20% of 30 students surveyed have ever watched a live event via the BRSN. Research has also shown that students pay attention to flyers on the walls at the places they visit more than advertisements on the internet. Although most students are online most of the time, studies show that they skip past any ad they see to get to the information they’re trying to get to. More students will get more exposure to the program if it is posted all over the walls were they are the most such as the Setzer Center and common places on campus. Research was done with 4 students to test the effectiveness of each kind of advertisement on a scale of 1-10.

Advertising Media Our main demographic (as stated in situation analysis) is Lamar University students, alumni, and family of the student athletes playing in programs on campus such as football, basketball, baseball, soccer, volleyball, and now softball. Seasonality is mainly any time except the months of June to August in the summer. The current reach and frequency of the Big Red Sports Network is not as big as we would like because most of the advertisements online are ignored and not noticed as well as other forms of advertisement. Through surveys we have found that the most effective form of advertising for Lamar students is flyers on the wall and physical advertisements placed in the locations they are the most. These places include lounges in various buildings, the library, the Setzer center and throughout the campus.

Advertising Media (continued): We will have a limited budget just enough to advertise on the campus of Lamar through flyers and other advertisements best suited to reach the students. As far as advertising outside of the campus, we will assure that coaches of the football, basketball, baseball, softball and soccer teams inform their recruits and the recruit’s family about the ability to stream these Lamar sports for free anywhere they have internet access. We believe coaches have just as much impact on advertising the program to recruits and prospective players as we do getting the word out to the students on campus.

Objectives: The Big Red Sports Network is a online network that allows fans to watch Lamar Cardinal athletics take on their opponents. The Big Red Sports Network also streams games live for free on their online network!

SMART Specific: A sports network that allows Lamar fans to support their Cardinals from anywhere. A way for Lamar athletics to stay connected with the Lamar faithful. Measurable: The way Big Red Sports Network has taken off in just short amount of time has exceeded a lot of expectations. The more resources and information that the network can provide and receive will only help excel the network to different heights. Achievable: The goal of Big Red Sports Network is to be able to not only get Lamar Athletics to grow and become recognized but Lamar University as a whole to grow and expand.

Smart (continued): Relevant: Being able to have a sports network that is relevant to Lamar itself will benefit all athletics at Lamar. Each team can use this as a recruiting mechanism. It’s a great way to reach out to the fans of Lamar that can’t make sporting events. Time-Bonded: Since the Big Red Sports Network was launched this year, the network has grown tremendously. Starting with broadcast of all home football games, to now broadcasting all home basketball games. In the spring, the Big Red Sports Network will broadcast baseball and softball games.

Budget: Big Red Sports Network works with a 100,000 annual budget. Cameras reach up to 25,000 dollars a piece. Tricaster is how Big Red Sports Network streams live coverage of all sports and that costs 30, 000 dollars. Tripods are worth dollars Microphones can range up to to dollars

Strategies: Market Strategy: The strategy of Big Red Sports Network is to be able to get Lamar athletics recognize and seen by those who want to be able to stay connected with Lamar athletics. Creative Strategy: To be able to reach out to all Lamar fans all over the world. Target Audience: Lamar Students, faculty and staff, Lamar Alumni, Lamar athletics supporters

Evaluation: Through studies and surveys we have figured that most students don’t know about the Big Red Sports Network. In fact, they don’t know about many of the Lamar athletic events going on. Through research we have concluded that physical flyers work better with college students at Lamar than online ads and even better than newspaper advertisements. The Big Red Sports Network is not only a powerful technological force in the University but is a great tool for recruiting across the nation. Advertising for this almost unknown entity will take more than just flyers. People that watch content on BigRedSN.com can spread the word on the free service.

Evaluation (continued): The BRSN is classified under the athletic department and has a fairly large budget with large amounts of equipment and produces a free broadcasts to anyone in the world on any device. Our goal for this campaign is to get people familiarized with Lamar students and alumni in order to promote the teams and student athletes that make up Lamar Athletics.
