Website to use…  symbolworld.org  Widgit.com  This site has recent news updates and stories for the child to read.  There are games for matching pictures to a subject or theme.  There is software to purchase for your computer to create your own stories.

How does it effect the child?  Autistic children are most often visual learners.  Their normal development of social and communication skill are effected and delayed.  Being in a classroom with other students can be a distraction, but it depends on the individual.

Symbols  Teachers can use these with their students to better communicate with them.  Small pictures or symbols, cut out individually, represent words.  Students can use these to create sentences or ideas, make to-do lists, and read stories.

Assessment  We would use these websites because they give teachers good ideas on how to use and create the symbols with their autistic students.
