Why I Chose NICU Nursing as My Study Topic Fascinated by it (strength of the small, miracles, power of medicine, etc.) Diverse, never boring, busy Personal gratification from helping those who can’t help themselves Potential future career pathway

Why I chose Genital Herpes as My Project Topic Prevalence of babies exposed/infected with HSV2 Relevant to my age group with an increased amount of teenagers participating in risky sexual behaviors Witnessing an actual case of a baby infected at birth and others receiving exposure

National Statistics: Genital Herpes Of STIs, Genital Herpes is one of the most common Lower socioeconomic status individuals, as well as city dwellers and divorced individuals are more susceptible to Genital Herpes contact HSV-2 infection rates are higher in women HSV-2 can be contracted during pregnancy (2% of women contract it during this time period) 15-30% of pregnant woman show a prevalence of HSV-2 Only 5% of infected pregnant women have a history of symptoms Women infected by HSV-2 who are pregnant are more likely to have miscarriages, premature labor, babies whose growth is retarded, and babies infected with HSV-2.
