Goals of Tourism Development Prepared by: Prof. Dindo Silud

Objectives At the end of the session, the students are expected to:  Discuss the goals of tourism development and how to construct tourism plan objectives; and  Formulate Tourism Plan Objectives.

What is an Objective? noun - something toward which effort is directed: an aim, goal, or end of action (Merriam-Webster 2012)

Goals of Tourism Development The following are the aims of tourism development: Provide a framework for raising the standard of living of the people through the economic benefits of tourism. (Cruz, 2012)

Goals of Tourism Development The following are the aims of tourism development: Develop the infrastructure and provide recreation facilities for tourists and local residents. Provide a framework for raising the standard of living of the people through the economic benefits of tourism. (Cruz, 2012)

Goals of Tourism Development The following are the aims of tourism development: Establish types of development within the tourist centers and resorts that are suitable to the purposes of these areas. Develop the infrastructure and provide recreation facilities for tourists and local residents. Provide a framework for raising the standard of living of the people through the economic benefits of tourism. (Cruz, 2012)

Goals of Tourism Development The following are the aims of tourism development: Establish types of development within the tourist centers and resorts that are suitable to the purposes of these areas. Develop the infrastructure and provide recreation facilities for tourists and local residents. Provide a framework for raising the standard of living of the people through the economic benefits of tourism. Provide a development program that is in accordance with the cultural, social, and economic philosophy of the government and the people of the host country or destination. (Cruz, 2012)

How to formulate objectives? Tourism Plan objectives will answer the following questions:  Why develop tourism?  What is the type and scale of tourism plan and visitor profiles?  What benefits are expected from tourism?  How will the plan limit tourism growth?  When will the development plan be implemented? (Maldives Tourism Master Plan, 1996)
