ELECTRICAL MACHINES- DC MOTOR BY- PRASAD A. PAWASKAR SPN NO DETE 2 SEMSESTER

Take a ride of motor! This presentation consists of the following concepts related to the electrical machine which is used everywhere called ‘DC MOTOR’.  What are electrical machines?  What’s a Dc Motor?  It’s basic parts.  Animated working.  Different Motors.  Compare generator & motor diagrammatically.  Summary.

Electrical Machines An Electrical machine is a device that converts mechanical energy to electrical energy or vice versa, and changes AC voltage from one level to another level. Electrical machines are divided into three parts: 1.Generator 2. Motor 3. Transformer

DC MOTOR  In any electric motor, operation is based on simple electromagnetism.  A current-carrying conductor generates a magnetic field; when this is then placed in an external magnetic field, it will experience a force proportional to the current in the conductor, and to the strength of the external magnetic field.

Dc motor basic parts  Every DC motor has six basic parts-axle, rotor, stator, commutator, field magnet(s), and brushes.  In most common DC motors, the external magnetic field is produced by high-strength permanent magnets,  Stator-stationary part of the motor  rotor -consists of windings

Detailing of Parts  The two important parts of a Dc motor is the Rotor & Stator.  In simple words Rotor is the rotating part of motor & Stator is the stationary part of the motor.  The Rotor actually as two sides in middle there is a AXLE, means that it is like a wheel which helps the Rotor to rotate.  The Rotor is covered with the windings.  These parts are actually placed in another part that’s called the Metal FRAME.  The most basic part needed for working of any kind of motor is the FIELD MAGNETS.

Basic words related to a DC Motor  TORQUE-  TORQUE- Any kind of Force on the system(conductor).  STARTER  STARTER-Device that creates a Force internally that tends due an internal combination to cause Rotation of the engine(motor.)  LOAD-  LOAD- External force acting on the mechanism.

Working of a Simple DC MOTOR Next slide

Types of Motors  There are various types of motors having the same basic principle: 1. Synchronous Motors 2. Induction Motors 3. Stepper-Motors 4. Universal motors

Compare generator & motor MOTOR GENERATOR

Summary The following are the important points that should be noted while considering a DC MOTOR: 1. Dc motor is most used electrical machine. 2. Converts electrical to mechanical energy. 3. The mechanical movement produced due to torque. 4. A Dc motor should never be started without load. 5. Starters are essential for starting all motors. 6. Dc motor is simply converse of a Dc Generator.
