Holes By Louis Sachar

The Story Main Characters- Stanley Yelnats/Caveman: A teenager who always seems to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. The Warden- A middle aged women obsessed with locating buried treasure. Kissing Kate Barlow- A criminal living 110 years before the present, who robbed many people and buried her treasures. The Boys- X-ray, Armpit, Zero, and Magnet. Boys Stanley meets at Camp Green Lake. The cast of “The Boys” from the adapted screen play of the book.

The Plot Stanley stumbles across a pair of stinky shoes and is excited to get them home. He is arrested for stealing the shoes. Just another case of the Yelnats curse. Stanley is sentenced to 18 months at Camp Green Lake boys reform. Stanley’s new daily activity is to dig holes 5 ft. wide and 5 ft. deep.

Wrapping It Up Stanley finds something interesting in his hole. Stanley runs away from camp. After returning to camp, Stanley digs his hole and finds the treasure. The treasure turns out to belong to Stanley Yelnats I The Yelnatz curse seems to be over.

Newbery Winner In 1999 Holes was the Newbery award winner. This award is for the most distinguished Contribution to American literature for children. Committee Chair Virginia McKee said "Holes" is "masterfully unified in character, setting and theme. Holes was inspired by gardening in the Texas summer heat.
