Enhancing Apprenticeships within ALPHI SETA Alison Sumpter

Enhancing Apprenticeships within ALPHI Steering Group:  SETA (Lead partner)  Fareham College  Totton College  HTP Project Manager  Alison Sumpter (Network Manager)

Project overview (1) Objective 1 – Employer Engagement To develop, promote and cascade an Employer Mentor Training package to standardise, professionalise and enhance the ability of employers to fully and effectively support their Apprentices.

Project overview (2) The network currently collaborates on a Hampshire and Isle of Wight Guide to Apprenticeships for learners. We need to refocus this towards employers. In terms of accessibility and sustainability to move from a printed to online format to enable instantaneous updates and reduced costs of distribution.

Project overview (3) Members will develop their whole workforce to be able to engage employers with Apprenticeships by offering 2 x 2 day programmes (32 staff) of Consultative Sales Skills training days for ‘non sales’ staff to break down the barriers and boost confidence for all staff to effectively sell to employers.

Project overview (4) Objective 2 – Improving teaching, learning and assessment Sean Errington of People Projects has developed an Observation of Teaching and Learning Award which we will pilot with the ALPHI network. This 15 week accredited programme for 20 ALPHI staff will professionalise staff and ensure learners gain the best possible curriculum with interesting and engaging learning

Outputs and Impact Outputs Electronic Mentor Training Handbook Training programme from consultative sales Electronic guide to Apprenticeships Curriculum and evaluation of OTL pilot Impact Professional offer by staff to employers, support to learners resulting in completions Increased staff credibility and confidence. Long term relationships with employers High quality, professional employer awareness materials Qualified, competent staff able to reflect and advise on improvement = Widening PARTICIPATION!
