Transforming classrooms with

Today’s outline  Description of technology  Words to know  Specific products  Uses in the classroom or library

Digital Video Projector A projector that uses digital technology to enlarge video or static images onto a blank wall or screen to share information with many people in a room.

Digital Video Projector

Words to know  Brightness Measured in lumens Choice depends on ambient light For classrooms: at least 1500, 3000 is better

Words to know  Resolution The number of pixels a screen portrays, expressed as screen width by height Picture of a projector is best when it matches that of the source monitor. Most projectors are either SVGA (800 x 600 pixels) or XGA (1024 x 768).

Other factors  Contrast: higher for better pictures  Aspect ratio: either 4:3 or 16:9  Lamp life  Size and weight: consider portability  Remote controls

Projection technology choice LCD: Liquid Crystal Display  Light is passed through liquid crystal pixels to project the image  PROS: greater color saturation  CONS: smaller contrast ratio, shadows (“absolute black”) are not as dark, dead pixels more common DLP: Digital Light Processing  Uses micro-mirrors to project the image  PROS: true-to-life colors, high contrast, smooth color transitions  CONS: “rainbow effect”, more expensive
