Please tick (/) AP * LDCs * South-south * Africa * SIDs *

Objectives of the Project 1.A meta-knowledge platform in making available tools and resources for engineering, science and technology human resource development for sustainable development through Connect-Asia; 2.Modular curricula that could be adopted by professional bodies and universities for certified training of professionals; 3.Mapping of UNESCO Natural Sciences family for establishing south-south learning alliances.

UNESCO and Engineering UNESCO – diverse in terms of Culture, Education, Communication and Information as well as Science Engineering Initiative – cross-cutting thematic area to draw on engineering related strengths across all Sectors To promote human and institutional capacity-building, particularly in developing countries, to reflect on the UN MDGs, SDGs and UNESCO priorities Concentrate on sustainable development and poverty eradication Innovation - clean technologies for sustainable development; robotics, nano-engineering, life-cycle analysis

Education in Engineering – Distance and interactive learning (including virtual universities and libraries) – advocacy and public understanding of engineering and technology; – addressing women and gender issues in engineering and technology; – inter-university and institutional cooperation, including fellowships

Engineering Capacity: Education Need for a new model of engineering education with international perspective Development of green or sustainable engineering is critical for climate change mitigation Need for better statistics and indicators to aid policy-makers – Disaggregate scientists and engineers – Separate fields of engineering and type of employment (industry, academia, research)

Engineering Capacity: Training Competent technical workforce leads to economic development – Address local and national technical needs – Develop small business start-ups and competent entrepreneurs – Create and attract technical companies for investment – Technically competent people to maintain and operate appropriate infrastructure Investment in job generation policies and enhancement of quality/quantity of engineering education is needed concurrently Growth in engineering works contribute to job creation and poverty reduction

Engineering Capacity: Mobility – Mobility of manpower or resources is critical to compete in global market – Changes that affect concept of mobility for engineering education Globalization Information and communication technologies Real competences Sustainability and sustainable development

Engineering Capacity: Mobility

Engineering in Post 2015 Agenda Goal 9: Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation Goal 17. Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development

Goal 9: Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation 9.5 enhance scientific research, upgrade the technological capabilities of industrial sectors in all countries, particularly developing countries, including by 2030 encouraging innovation and increasing the number of R&D workers and public and private R&D spending. 9.a facilitate sustainable and resilient infrastructure development in developing countries through enhanced financial, technological and technical support to African countries, LDCs, LLDCs and SIDS 9.b support domestic technology development, research and innovation in developing countries including by ensuring a conducive policy environment for inter alia industrial diversification and value addition to commodities 9.c significantly increase access to ICT and strive to provide universal and affordable access to internet in LDCs by 2020
