The Northeast Biomanufacturing Center and Collaborative (NBC 2 ) Center and Northern New England Hub at NHCTC, Portsmouth, NH Massachusetts and Connecticut (Early) Hub at MRHS, Lexington, MA Rhode Island Hub at CCRI, Warwick, RI Upstate New York Hub at FLCC, Canandaigua, NY Big Pharma Hub at MCCC, Blue Bell, PA Mid-Atlantic Hub at CCBC, Catonsville, MD

By forming self-sustaining collaborative relationships with biomanufacturers, biomanufacturing support companies, and biotech/biomanufacturing educators around Hubs in the Northeast By working together to provide appropriately educated and trained biomanufacturing technicians and professionals to drive the bioeconomy Central Purpose of the NBC 2 : Build the Biomanufacturing Education and Training Infrastructure in the Northeast

Additionally The NBC 2 is working with its global biomanufacturing companies to pioneer a Global Biomanufacturing Curriculum (GBC) Repository and the Hamonization of Biopharmaceutical Manufacturing Skill Standards to support the GBC. The GBC is a shared repository for withdrawing and depositing curricula, instructional materials and resources for biomanufacturing education and training available to educators, biomanufacturers and vendors through membership at

NBC 2 Relationship with Lonza Lonza represented on the NBC 2 National Visiting Committee Lonza is a member of the NBC 2 Advisory Board; Mike Cicio of Lonza chaired the NBC 2 Advisory Board September 2005 to March 2007 Lonza hosts the four yearly NBC 2 Advisory Board teleconferences Lonza provides equipment and supplies for the NBC 2 Equipment Resource Lonza provides keynote lecturers for the annual BIOMAN conference Lonza provides tours for the annual BIOMAN conference Lonza is a partner in the DOL Registered Biomanufacturing Apprenticeship program Lonza is a participant in creating the Biopharmaceutical Manufacturing Industry Skill Standards Lonza personnel serve on Learning Community groups focused on providing curriculum, instructional materials and resources for jobs in process development, metrology and facilitites for the NBC 2 and its GBC

NHCTC Relationship with Lonza NHCTC provides appropriately trained biomanufacturing technicians for Lonza NHCTC provides Biomanufacturing Apprentices for Lonza NHCTC’s Northeast Biomanufacturing Institute provides custom short courses for Lonza incumbent workers NHCTC makes provisions for Lonza and Eli Lilly (Lonza partner) to utilize NH Biotechnology Education and Training wet lab space for process development activities Lonza is a member of the NHCTC Biotechnology Department Advisory Board Lonza provides lab and large- scale equipment for use and/or demonstration and various supplies for NHCTC Lonza provides student tours Lonza provides employment for graduates Lonza provides Biomanufacturing Apprenticeships, full-time in the summer and part-time during the academic year Lonza and Eli Lilly are helping with the design of a process development and training facility at NHCTC

And Next, Lonza’s Olga Mollin and Cathleen O’Connor will talk about their employer Lonza Biologics, the world’s largest contract biopharmaceutical manufacturer and Lonza’s relationship with the NBC 2 and NHCTC Later, as NBC 2 Upstate New York Hub Director, I will talk about the activities of the Upstate New York Hub and how this biotech/biomanufacturing cluster has grown since the NBC 2 Inaugural Event and Advisory Board Meeting held at Finger Lakes Community College, September 26 and 27, 2005.
