Presentation transcript:

The Personnel Safety System (PSS) monitors the state of variables relevant to personnel safety (e.g. station door status, shutter status, water flow to Radiation Safety System components, etc.). When variables are outside of their intended operational range, the PSS experiences a fault and renders a beamline inoperable. There are three different types of faults: MAJOR, SERIOUS, and MINOR These instructions are for resetting MINOR faults only. PSS Minor Fault Reset Instructions

The most commonly encountered MINOR faults are related to Enclosure Doors Water flow to RSS components

Course of Action 1. 1.Note the name and number of the fault

Course of Action Note if the fault is latched Latched faults are indicated by a colored box adjacent to the name.

Course of Action 3.Go to the beamline and determine the cause for the fault. Ask the User what occurred just prior to the fault Door:“Were you conducting a Search & Secure?” etc. Water:“Did you adjust any valves inside/outside the hutch?” etc. Other:“You did what?!?!” etc.

Course of Action 4.Using the PSS Minor Fault key, attempt to reset the fault. MINOR faults are reset by turning the PSS MINOR FAULT reset key in the appropriate lock of the 15U cabinet for its first optical enclosure (FOE). Below is a drawing of 17-BM-A and a star denotes the 15U panel location

Course of Action Using the PSS Minor Fault key, attempt to reset the fault. A MINOR fault is indicated on the 15U panel by a blinking LED above the lock. When the MINOR fault is reset the LED will remain lit. Remember, when there is a fault, the Front End Shutter is closed and will not be allowed to open until the beamline is restored to proper operations.

Course of Action 4.If the fault resets, stay at the beamline until the user has successfully taken beam into the desired station. If the fault does not reset or occurs more than 3 times per shift, contact the SI on- call engineer. Document the occurrence in the appropriate shift log.

Water Faults PSS consists of several logic chains. CHAIN A is the one that does the fault reporting. CHAIN B is passive. Both can remove the shutter permit and render the beamline inoperative. If the fault was related to water flow through an RSS component, the LOVE controllers incorporated into CHAIN B are programmed to latch and require resetting before restoring the shutter permit. NOTE:Even if the 15U panel indicates that there are no MINOR faults, The CHAIN B LOVE Controllers may still require resetting before the beamline can be restored to proper operations. NOTE:CHAIN B LOVE Controllers are located in ##-ID-AR-RR04 on top of the Storage Ring.
