Architectural Drawing Types  Architectural Details

Mechanical and Electrical Systems  Electrical terms  Electricity: flow of electrons in a conductor  Conductor: material that permits the flow of electricity  Circuit: complete path of electricity  Voltage: pressure that forces current through a wire  Current: the volume of electrons flowing through a conductor  Resistance: the amount of work it takes to move electricity

Mechanical and Electrical Systems  Electricity symbols

Mechanical and Electrical Systems  Electrical systems

Mechanical and Electrical Systems  Plumbing terms  Vent stacks-a pipe placed vertically and connected to the traps of plumbing fixtures to ventilate them and prevent the water seal from being siphoned out of them.  Water heater-an apparatus for heating and usually storing hot water  Hose bib-An outdoor water faucet protruding from a building at about sill height, which is usually threaded to accept a hose connection.

Mechanical and Electrical Systems  HVAC terms  Airflow: The distribution or movement of air.  Central Air Conditioning System: System in which air is treated at a central location and distributed to and from rooms by one or more fans and a series of ducts.  Ductwork: The method by which air is channeled from the furnace or the blower coil throughout your home.  Heat Exchanger: Located in the furnace, the heat exchanger transfers heat to the surrounding air, which is then pumped throughout the home  Ventilator:A system that exchanges stale, recirculated indoor air with fresh, filtered outside air.
