DISABILITY AWARENESS ALLERDALE COSC

DISABLED PEOPLE WANT TO GO OUT & HAVE FUN TOO! WHY ARE WE NOT COMFORTABLE WITH THIS IDEA?

MANY DISABLED ADULTS WERE NOT DISABLED AS CHILDREN. THIS COULD BE YOU IN THE FUTURE - YOU COULD FOR EXAMPLE, HAVE AN ACCIDENT OR STROKE. HOW WOULD YOU COPE?

HOW CAN YOU MAKE A PERSON WITH A DISABILITY FEEL MORE WELCOME?

HOW MUCH DO YOU THINK IT COSTS TO ACCOMMODATE A PERSON WITH A DISABILITY IN A WORKPLACE?

SHOULD PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES HAVE EQUAL RIGHTS TO JOBS?

JUST BECAUSE YOU SEE SOMEONE USING A WHEELCHAIR TO GET AROUND DOESN’T MEAN THEY USE IT ALL THE TIME.

JUST BECAUSE SOMEONE IS PHYSICALLY DISABLED DOESN’T MEAN THEY CAN’T ACHIEVE. PEOPLE IN WHEELCHAIRS CAN GO TO UNI!

STRANGERS AUTOMATICALLY SEE THE DISABILITY RATHER THAN THE PERSON. A LADY IN A WHEELCHAIR WILL BE DESCRIBED AS THAT, RATHER THAN A WOMAN, ABOUT 45 YEARS OLD, BROWN HAIR AND BROWN EYES.

DO YOU THINK DISABILITIES ARE ALWAYS VISIBLE?

HAVE THESE MADE YOU THINK?

WE THINK THAT…. *YOU HAVE TO MAKE THE BEST OF LIFE. *ALTHOUGH THERE ARE BARRIERS TO OVERCOME, A DISABILITY DOESN’T STOP YOU DOING WHAT YOU WANT TO DO. *IT IS OK TO ACCEPT HELP FROM OTHERS. *ESTABLISH YOUR ABILITIES. *MAKE THE BEST OF OPPORTUNITIES.

OUR PLAN * TO CHANGE PERCEPTION OF DISABILITIES THROUGH EDUCATION. *TO PRODUCE AN INFORMATION LEAFLET. *TO PROMOTE COSC & THE GREAT WORK IT DOES.
