November 30, 2008 Jesus is Lord of ALL The call of the Christian is to walk in righteousness in all areas of our walk with Him. (Seek first the kingdom … Matt 6:33) (To teach you always to put God first in your life … Deut 14:23) Jesus needs to be Lord of our Finances as well. We do this by: 1.Being Blameless in the way we manage our finances; 2.Returning the tithe to God
November 30, 2008 Walking Blameless in our Finances Remove any compromise from how we handle our money; Don’t give the devil authority over your finances. Examples: o Incorrect reporting on your income tax o Paying cash to avoid tax o Making copies of copyrighted material o Lying to get a seniors or child discount o Not putting in a full days work o etc. God promises blessing for being blameless: o “walk before me and be blameless. I will confirm my covenant between me and you and will greatly increase your numbers”
November 30, 2008 What is a tithe? Ten percent of gross income o Any earned income o Governmental assistance o Inheritances o Bonuses o Monetary gifts such as birthday presents
November 30, 2008 How do you tithe? Cheerfully o God loves a cheerful giver (2 Cor. 9:7) The first fruit is God’s o take … the first fruits of all that you produce … (Deut 26:2) To local church o (Malachi 3:10/Deut. 14:23)
November 30, 2008 Return the tithe to God Tithe belongs to God o "Will a man rob God? Yet you rob me. "But you ask, 'How do we rob you?' "In tithes and offerings. (Malachi 3:8) o "Give to Caesar what is Caesar's, and to God what is God's." (Mathew 22:21) Jesus asks us to tithe. o "Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You give a tenth … you have neglected the more important matters... You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former. “ (Matt 23:23)
November 30, 2008 Why do we tithe? God promises to bless us: o I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it. (Malachi 3:10) God will rebuke the devourer: o "I will prevent pests from devouring your crops, and the vines in your fields will not cast their fruit," (Malachi 3:10)
