The current flag of Colombia was officially adopted on December 17 th,1819. The flag features three horizontal bands of yellow, blue, and red. As a very popular Colombian kids song says.... YELLOW is our gold BLUE is our vast seas (oceans) and RED is the blood that gave us our freedom... (from Spain)

The Ethnic Groups of Colombia are: Mestizo 58% Mulatto 14 % White 20% Black 4% Mixed black- Amerindian 3% Amerindian 1%

The main Religion of Colombia is Roman Catholic

Colombia was one of the three countries that emerged from the collapse of Gran Colombia in 1830 and the others being Ecuador and Venezuela.

A 40 year insurgent campaign to overthrow the Colombian Government escalated during the 1990's undergirded in part by funds from the drug trade.

Although the violence is deadly and large swaths of the countryside are under guerrilla influence The movement lacks the military strength or popular support necessary to overthrown the government.
