Presentation transcript:

By: Kassidy Garrison, Lauren Saxe, Sahana Venkatesh, Natalie Mann

Step 1- The Dress  The Flapper dress- Short hemline, Low neckline.

Step 2- The Makeup  Bright Red lips, Rosy bright cheeks, Dark eyes

Step 3- The Bob  Short, boyish haircuts

Step 4- Don’t Forget Your Accessories! Jewelry- Long pearl strings, geometric patterns, beaded necklaces, dangled earrings

Hats and headpieces  Cloche hats, feather headpieces.

Shoes  Mary Jane’s, Straps

Bags and Purses  Beaded, shiny, flashy, and jeweled.

Now that you are a Flapper, it is Time to Find the Perfect Gentleman!

Menswear- The suit  Conservative suit - narrow shoulders, tight- fitted jackets.  Vests - worn with daytime business suits as well as formal tuxedos.  Headwear : fedora, trilby, or boater.

Other Men’s Clothing  Tweed and flannel  Sweaters, vests, and ties with bold colors or intricate patterns  Wing Tip shoes - especially in two-tone colors.

Raid your Closet to Dress the Part.

Girls-  Anything with pearls, feathers, or sequins. Wear a plain black dress and add your own twist with accessories. Accessories are the key to becoming a successful flapper! Big, fake, costume jewelry is approved. If you do not have short hair, try to pin it up. You do not have to cake on the makeup. Instead, try a darker lip gloss to add some drama. Try some tights or leggings underneath your dress so it isn’t so revealing. If you want to go all out, that is your choice, but have fun!

Boys-  This may be a little more difficult. Try raiding Dad or Grandpa’s closet for a spiffy suit. Men in the 20s usually dressed very formal. If you cannot obtain a suit, go with a dress shirt and a colorful tie. With Mom’s permission, take a flower and pin it to your chest. If you can find a fedora these were very popular. Some alternatives to the suit are flannels, anything tweed, and sweaters. Remember they loved patterns!

Remember to stick the latest Parisian Fashions from famous fashion designers.

Jeanne Lanvin  Created children’s and women’s clothing  Influenced by colorful oriental and Aztec colors and style  Famous for her ‘robes de style’ (as seen on the right)  Used more feminine aesthetics in her designs Left: Jeanne Lanvin, Parisian fashion designer Up: Robe de style, 1924

Jean Patou  Famous for creating the sportswear for “golf, tennis, horseback riding, and fishing and called it ‘le coin des sports’  Went on to create scarves, jewelry, dresses, hats, perfume etc  Known for sleek, geometric designs Far left: Jean Patou Left: Part of Lanvin’s 1928 collection of swimming suit for women Up: Lanvin 1926 collection of evening dress

Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel  Revolutionary fashion designer  Famous for the “little black dress”  Embraced the garçonne look, simplistic designs that made women look young and boyish, yet sophisticated  Used beige, blacks, and whites in her designs  Often used pearls and the white camellia to give a hint of feministic beauty Left: Coco Chanel Right: c. 1926, “little black dress”
