Grammar Rules- Clauses There are two types of clauses: Independent Clauses and Dependent Clauses. Independent clauses do not have any special punctuation. Dependent Clauses are separated by commas unless they come at the end of sentence.

Clauses- Independent Clauses An independent clause is a series of words that has a subject and a verb and expresses a complete thought. Independent clauses are complete sentences and can stand on their own. –EXAMPLE: The students are talking loudly.

Clauses- Dependant A dependant clause is a series of words that has a subject and/or verb but does not express a complete thought. –EXAMPLE1: While talking in the room, the students –EXAMPLE2: The boy, after speaking with your mother, –EXAMPLE3: that once belonged to my grandmother.
