Ode Poems ODE POEMS

Ode Definition  Ode is a poem written in 1874 by the English poet Arthur O'Shaughnessy. It is often referred to by its first line We are the music makers.poem1874EnglishArthur O'Shaughnessy  The Ode is the first poem in O'Shaughnessy's collection Music and Moonlight. It has nine stanzas, although it is commonly believed to be only three stanzas long. The opening stanza is: We are the music makers, And we are the dreamers of dreams, Wandering by lone sea-breakers, And sitting by desolate streams;— World-losers and world-forsakers, On whom the pale moon gleams: Yet we are the movers and shakers Of the world for ever, it seems.

The English Ode  The English Ode, also called the Homostrophic or Horatian Ode, is slightly more structured.8 Traditionally, the poet chooses the number of lines, the rhyme pattern and meter, but many stick to the following conventions:2Homostrophic Horatian8poet chooses the number of lines, the rhyme pattern and meter2  Ten lines per stanza3 Ten lines3  Rhyme pattern ABABCDECDEABABCDECDE Each new stanza in the ode brings new rhymes that follow the same pattern, for example the A-rhymes in stanza one might be "ball and call" while the A-rhyme in stanza two could be ring and thing.

Summer Olympian Ode Project  Write an ode about the 2012 American Olympics medalist that you chose.  Use the information from your scavenger hunt.  Be neat, original and vivid.  Example- Michael Phelps, Serena Williams, USA Men’s basketball, women’s sports team player (soccer, volleyball, gymnastics, field hockey, track, tennis, basketball, archery, and fencing)  NO BADMINTON!!!!!!!!!!
