Food in Ancient Rome

Overview I am going to talk about a lot of things in my presentation, such as, What types of food did the ancient Romans eat. The most popular foods in ancient Rome. How did the ancient Romans get their food. How your rank can effect what you eat. What did they use to eat off of. Also, What times they ate.

What types of food did they eat? They ate Vegetables, Fruit, Legumes, Fish and seafood, they rarely ate meat, Grains, Herbs and spices, and some other foods.

The most popular foods The most popular foods in ancient Greece were available most of the year. They were barley, wheat, and fish.

How did they get their food The ancient Romans got their food by catching fish, killing large and small animals to eat, also by growing and selling crops. This is a dish that ancient Romans love it’s called Globuli

Depending on your rank in society that’s the kind of food you ate. If you were in a lower rank you didn’t eat much you only ate what you could get. how your rank can effect what you eat

Also, when you were in a middle rank you didn’t eat as much as you wanted If you were in a high rank you ate good but you didn’t have a feast. If you were a king or goddess, you ate as much as you wanted when you wanted.

What did they use to eat off of The most widely used pottery was oil lamps, bottles, pitchers, bowls and plates.

Eating times Breakfast (the Romans called this jentaculum) was taken in the master's bedroom and usually consisted of a slice of bread or a wheat pancake eaten with dates and honey. Lunch (the Romans called this prandium) was eaten at about a.m. and consisted of a light meal of bread, cheese and possibly some meat. In many senses, everything was geared up towards the main meal of the day. Cena. This was eaten in the late afternoon or early evening. If the master of the house had no guests, cena might take about one hour. If he did have guests, then this meal might take as long as four hours.

Now you know, What types of food the ancient Romans ate. The most popular foods in ancient Rome. How the ancient Romans got their food. How your rank could effect what you ate. What they used to eat off of. And, What times they ate.
