“Oranges” by Gary Soto Underline the first sentence of the poem (lines 1-4). What can you predict about the action of the poem? About the tone? What are some possible tone words that might describe the first time someone walked with a person of the opposite sex?

Imagery First do this… Underline the imagery with a different color for each of the senses as you follow along while the teacher reads the poem aloud. Red for sight Green for hearing Blue for smell Yellow for touch Black for sight Underline the imagery with a different color for each of the senses as you follow along while the teacher reads the poem aloud. Red for sight Green for hearing Blue for smell Yellow for touch Black for sight Now do this… As we read the poem together, the teacher will read the poem and you will join in when we come to a line you have underlined in a color. Or We can do this with an audio version of the poem on the next slide.
