TIME MANAGEMENT Time is a created thing. To say “I don’t have time” is like saying, “I don’t want to.” -Lao-Tzu

The problem with life in the fast lane is that you quite often get to the end of the road in an awful hurry.

I’m in a hurry to get things done. I rush and rush ‘till life’s no fun. All I really need to do is live and die, but I’m in a hurry and don’t know why. ALABAMA

TIME QUESTIONS How many of you would like to have more time in your day? Are your evening hours/weekends used for restoration, or “catching up”? How much is your time worth? Time is unrenewable/fixed commodity Money is a renewable resource

TIME QUESTIONS Father / Son / Grandfather Analogy Father takes his son to GPA’s and GPA makes him do work…. Father asks- What did he pay you? Queen Elizabeth- I’ll give all my stuff for one thing: more TIME. If you knew that your life would end today, how valuable would your time be? PRICELESS.

Time Management Techniques Assess how you spend time Set goals (short term to long term) Prioritize (ABC lists) Create a schedule Maximize your rewards

Time Management Considerations Setting Goals Prioritizing A, B, C Lists Page 114 Scheduling Planner Maximize Rewards Say “no” Delegate Evaluate tasks once Use circular file Limit Interruptions

Your Time – Concepts (3 P’s) Pareto Principle – Alert time 80% REWARDS from only- 20% of our activities Conversely, we get 80% of our tasks completed in 20% of the time we spend This tells us we need to focus more on the activities from which we will reap the most benefit Parkinson’s Law Work expands to fill time available for its accomplishment Procrastination Distasteful tasks Difficult tasks Difficult decisions
