API WI 2385 API C110 laboratory testing for inclusion in NACE MR0175/ISO 15156 WI Leader John W Martin

SSC Domain Diagram from NACE MR0175/ISO 15156 Part 2 Intention is to qualify API 5CT C110 for Region 2 pH pH2S (kPa)

Program of work Since no material forthcoming yet with a hardness at the top of the acceptable range (i.e. with a hardness of 29.5 to 30.0HRC) Step 1. Take material from two available Heats from the DCB test program with the highest hardness (28.5HRC). Obtain one more Heat with a hardness of 28.5HRC or greater. Start the qualification testing on this material asap. Step 2 Request materials from the manufacturers with a hardness of 29.5HRC to 30.0HRC with a deadline of the end of 2013. If material forthcoming undertake the qualification testing on this material in 2014. If no material forthcoming consider developing a ballot based on the 28.5+HRC material and looking to revise the maximum hardness in API 5CT down to 29HRC.

Materials for Testing (1) Material from at least 3 commercial Heats required for the qualification process. STEP 1 MATERIAL Two Heats with 28.5+ HRC offered from the DCB test program (WI 2318/2348) C2 (hardness 28.6HRC) E (hardness 28.6HRC) Therefore still require at least one more commercial Heat before can start the test program. So need material asap. STEP 2 MATERIAL Three Heats with 29.5 to 30.0HRC required, with commitment before the end of 2013.

Materials for Testing (2) Sample Material Requirements are:- Enough material with sufficient thickness for at least 17 ‘Standard’ NACE TM0177 Method A (‘Uniaxial Tension’) test-pieces (i.e. enough for triplicate tests at 5 test conditions + 2 ‘spares’. Sufficient material characterisation documentation for the NACE MR0175 qualification process. This should include, chemical composition, method of manufacture, product form, strength, hardness, heat-treatment condition and microstructure. as a minimum, plus any other information required by API 5CT for C110 grade. David Sponseller has agreed to approach the providers of the two ‘DCB Test Program’ Heats (C2 and E) to establish whether they would agree to their material being part of this qualification process (would also need to obtain the material characterisation documentation indicated above).

Laboratory testing program Require a laboratory capable of undertaking ‘NACE TM0177 Method A’ SSC testing to a high standard. There will be at least three materials (Heats) for each Step and intention is to test at least FIVE conditions with triplicate tests for each condition. Environmental test conditions will be:- pH 3.5; pH2S; 0.01bar (1%H2S) gas balance CO2 pH 4.5; pH2S 0.1 bar (10%H2S) gas balance CO2 pH 5.5; pH2S 1 bar (100%H2S) API 5CT ‘mild sour’ conditions ‘Standard NACE’ conditions (Test solution 5% mass fraction NaCl + 0.5% mass fraction CH3COONa, pH adjusted via HCl/NaOH) Applied load 90% Actual Yield Strength (AYS) (‘Standard NACE conditions at 85%SMYS) Total Number of Tests Required – 45 minimum
