Spiritual Warfare, What is it?

"Some speak of [Spiritual Warfare as being] the struggle between good and evil.. Ed Murphy, The Handbook for Spiritual Warfare, revised ed. (Nashville: Thomas Nelson, 1996), page 13.

“Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, authorities, And powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms” -Ephesians 6:10-12

“Satan’s cleverest trick is to convince the world that he does not exist. --C.S. Lewis

“Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.“ -James 4:7 “In all these things we are more than conquerors... (Nothing) shall separate us from the love of God” -Romans 8:38-39

Preparation for spiritual warfare Understand the reality of the spiritual battle Romans 8:38-39; Ephesians 6:12; I Peter 5:8-10 Understand your position in Christ—Satan has been defeated (Ephesians 1:19-22)— the believer has authority in Christ Weapons of warfare (2 Corinthians: )—prayer, faith, obedience

Basics of Spiritual Warfare We expect it (1 Peter 5:8) We prepare for it (1 John 3:8) We pray for protection (James 4:7) We pray for discernment (Eph 1:17, 6:16-18) We pray against it (1 Peter 3:12; Col 4:2) We pray and walk with confidence that there is victory in Christ and that He is with us always (1 Peter 5:9; 1 John 3:24; Eph 3:16) Prepare with under girding prayer—discernment

Possible manifestations of Spiritual Warfare: Strife among team members Logistical problems Misunderstandings with hosts in country Illness and other medical issues Discouragement and emotional overload Poor rest; unusual behavior Theft, lost luggage Attacks can be on the field or back home
