Lesson objectives By the end of the lesson the learners should be able to: 1.State the application areas of computers. 2.Explain how computers are used in each area.

Introduction -In our day to day activities,we use computers in almost every aspect of our lives. -This is because they are more efficient and accurate.

AREAS WHERE COMPUTERS ARE USED  Super markets  Used inOffices  Used in banks  Used in industries  Used in transport  Used in communication  Law enforcement agencies  Used in education

Other areas where computer are used include:  Domestic and entertainment.  Used in library services.

1.Super markets -Most retail stores use computers to help in the management of daily activities like stock control. -The stock control system keeps account of what is in the stock,and what is out of stock. -The management is automatically alerted whenever a particular item or items are running out of stock.

2.Offices -Computers have increased efficiency in offices by reducing the time and effort needed to access and receive information. -Now adays most offices are automated for faster input and data processing.

3.Banks -Special cash dispensing machines called Automated Teller machines(ATMs).Have enabled automation of cash deposits and withdraw sevices. -Efficiency has also been increased due to better record keeping and document processing brought about the use computers.

4.Transport -computers are used to monitor vehicle traffic in busy towns,In aircraft navigation and in making reservation.

5.Industries -Computers are being used to monitor and control industrial processes. -The computer age has seen wide use of remote Controlled devices called a robot. -A robot is a machine that works like a human being but performs tasks that are too unpleasant,dangerous or complex and tedious to assign human beings.

6.Communication -Integration of computers and telecommunication facilities has made message transmission and reception to be very fast and efficient. -because of the high speed with which information can be transmitted around theworld using the computers.The world has become a Global village.

7.Law enforcement firms firms -Information stored in computers such as fingerprints,images and other identification details help law enforcers carry out criminal investigations.

8.Education -computers are used in teaching and learning process. -Learning and teaching using computers is referred to as CAL(Computer Aided learning)and CAI (Computer Aided Instruction)

9.Domestic and entertainment. Computers can be used at home for recreational activities such as watching movies,playing music and computer games.
