John Venn was born August 4, 1834 in Hull, Yorkshire, England. John came from a Low Church Evangelical background. His mother, who was from Swanland near Hull died when john was 3. In 1853 John joined Gonville and Caius College of Cambridge University. In 1857 John was named a Fellow of the college. John published his first book, Symbolic Logic which introduced Venn diagrams in In 1883 John was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society. John published his second book, The Principles of Empirical Logic in In 1897 John wrote of his colleges history, The Biographical History of Gonville and Caius College in In Cambridge, England on the fourth of April 1923, John Venn died.
