The UWCAd Economics Society What is it?

A brief history of UWCADES The society was started in 2000 by six students who shared interests in economics and politics. Originally, the society was meant to complement the teaching of economics with informal discussions about topics of general interest. After leaving the college in 2001, the website was created and the first articles published.

(…) The society remained active mostly through the students who went to London and the website became larger as contributions from people outside the original group started to flow. At the time being, UWCADES is officially integrated by seven ex-UWC students and is looking to formalise the relationship with the current students from the college.

Aims of UWCADES Increase international understanding through economic awareness. Be an open forum to promote the exchange of ideas and perceptions. Create a network of UWC students during and after their period as college students.

Current status and organisation UWCADES works mainly through its website. The main categories within the site are: - Articles of general interest - Resources: Library & Links sections - Publications - UWCADES Journal (project to be launched) - Forum

How to achieve our aims? Establish UWCADES as an additional activity. Activities to be carried out: - Choice of a monthly topic, related with the IB Economics syllabus. - Weekly meetings to discuss the topic. - Realisation of an information board. - Publication of an article summarising the topic discussed. - A presentation to the college community.

Future of UWCADES UWC Economics Society (UWCES) - Create a network of current and former UWC students who share common interests. UWCADES Journal - Opinion articles - Economics and Politics articles - Other related issues.
