Verbos Reflexivos. The reflexive construction consists in Spanish of a reflexive pronoun and a verb. acostarse ponerse vestirse In this construction the subject is both the performer and the receiver of the action expressed by the verb. Isabel se acuesta Yo me pongo Él se viste Any verb that can act upon the subject can be made reflexive in Spanish with the aid of a reflexive pronoun. (The meaning may be different)
yo me lavo tú te bañas él se afeita Reflexive pronouns have the same form as direct and indirect object pronouns, except in the third person singular and plural. me nos te os se se As with the object pronouns, reflexive pronouns are placed immediately before the conjugated verb. yo me lavo tú te bañas él se afeita
In progressive constructions or with the infinitive, they are either attached to the present participle or the infinitive, or placed in front of the conjugated verb. Ella está bañándose. Ella se está bañando. Tú vas a peinarte. Tú te vas a peinar. When talking about parts of the body and articles of clothing. Spanish uses the definite article rather than the possessive adjective. Me lavo las manos. I wash my hands Me pongo los pantalones. I put on my pants.
Reciprocal Reflexives The plural reflexive pronouns nos, os, se, may be used with certain verbs to express reciprocal actions. (The English equivalent for each other or one another.) Nos queremos mucho. We love each other a lot. Marta y José se escriben frecuentemente. Marta y Jose write each other frecuently.
